Cheruthoni (Idukki): A woman who fought all odds in life by farming in mere 15 cents of land and earned upto Rs 50,000 per month has been selected for the Award for Best Woman Farmer in the district.

Sindhu (42) who resides near Idukki town bagged the award through hard work and determination. Minister for Agriculture V S Sunil Kumar handed over the award to Sindhu at a ceremony held in Munnar the other day.

'Mathrubhumi' had reported the success story of Sindhu a few months ago. Sindhu has been rearing quail, fish, goat, rabbit, country chicken and cow in the limited space available. With the income from farming, she has been supporting her four children and her mother.

Sindhu is growing 1000 quails in a cage set up in the courtyard and collects over 900 eggs per day. She is also managing fish farming in advanced biofloc method near this. Through multiple farming ventures, she managed to make upto Rs 50,000 per month.
