Shoji Mathew harvests purple yam
Kumily: The huge purple yam (Dioscorea Alata) harvested by a farmer in Idukki fascinated the natives. A purple yam weighing at least 85 kilogram was reaped from the plot of Chellarkovil native Shoji Mathew.
Shoji took four days to harvest the massive yam from underground. He also sought the help of a few workers to dig out the yam.
The three yams harvested from a single plant were more than 3 feet long.
