Palakkad: Mathrubhumi agriculture fair concluded at Palakkad on Tuesday with a special resolution emphasising the need to give due recognition to farmers. The resolution urged central and state governments to declare farmers as individuals involved in national service. It also urged governments to immediately take up the matter to save the agrarian sector in crisis by ensuring market for their products.

Minister for electricity KK Krishnankutty inaugurated the debate over the resolution. He assured that government will favourably look into the request and will aid the farmers improve their standard of living.

The resolution highlighted the fact that the a farmer who works for alleviating poverty of 130 crore citizens deserves honour. The debate also put the contribution of the farming sector to economy amid pandemic period in the limelight. Some participants also expressed their exasperation over the fact that governments did not give due consideration to farmers contribution.

Meanwhile, the five-day agriculture fair organised as part of Mathrubhumi’s centenary celebrations, had around 150 stalls, seminars, open forums and exhibition of agricultural products. The fair witnessed announcement of various schemes and policy changes in favour of farmers.
