Pathanamthitta: Kurampala native Kannan is really proud to be a farmer. When doctors, engineers and lawyers fixed emblems that indicate their profession on their vehicle, Kannan set up the emblem of a plough along with the name 'Janamithram' on his vehicle. An employee of Dhanuvachapuram NSS College, he spends more time on his farm. Now he has taken leave to concentrate in farming.
Kannan is fond of the traditional method farming which was followed by his ancestors. He is engaging in intercropping on his compound and farm. In this method, multiple crops are grown together. He also makes organic fertilizer by mixing banana stem, cow dung, chicken manure and prawns. A large share of the produce is given for free to people and only the remaining items will be sold.
Different types of crops including snake gourd, bitter gourd, long beans, banana, yam, taro and ginger are growing in Kannan's farm. Apart from farming, Kannan is also a Padayani artiste. He is the major Padayani performer in Adavi festival held every five years in Kurampala Puthankavil Bhagavathi temple. He plays the humorous role in the art form. Besides, he also performs Padayani through online media.
