7.5-feet-long snake gourd turns crowd-puller in Thrissur


Jayanthi followed only organic method to grow the snake gourd. She applied only cow dung powder and goat manure as fertilizer.

Thrissur: People are flocking to the house of Peringannoor native Jayan on hearing about a giant snake gourd that has grown on his kitchen garden. The snake gourds on the plant has a length of 7.5 feet.

Jayan is interested in agriculture from a very early age. It was his wife Jayanthi who grew the snake gourd vine and gave it support on a drumstick tree on the compound. Seeds of the giant snake gourd was bought in packets from the shop.

Jayanthi followed only organic method to grow the snake gourd. She applied only cow dung powder and goat manure as fertilizer. Only one of the plants is producing giant snake gourds. Other plants grew with it have snake gourds of normal size only.
