There are almost 4000 fruits on the bunch presently. The fruits on the upper side of the bunch are larger in size and those on lower side are smaller.

Kottayam: A different variety of banana called Pisang Seribu or Musa 1000 Fingers is pulling crowd at the farm of Ponkunnam native Immanuel Thomas. The banana plant is 11.5 feet tall while the bunch of banana has a length of 10.5 feet.

In spite of the extraordinary length, new bananas keep emerging on the bunch. There are almost 4000 fruits on the bunch presently. The fruits on the upper side of the bunch are larger in size and those on lower side are smaller. Though this banana is used for ornamental purposes, the fruits are delicious.

The seed of Pisang Seribu was bought from Banana Research Station in Kannara and was planted in May 2019. It bore fruit on January this year. Even now, new bananas are emerging on the bunch making it longer.
