Kozhikode: Both the UDF and the BJP are gearing up to use the charge sheet submitted by CBI against CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan, in connection with Ariyil Shukkoor murder case, as a weapon against the LDF government in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The charge sheet against P Jayarajan is a setback for LDF as he was being considered to contest from Vadakara constituency. The charge sheet gave more evidences to the claim that CPM encourages political violence.
Though Vadakara was a stronghold of CPM, Mullappally Ramachandran of the Congress had won twice from the constituency consecutively. The charge sheet emerged while the CPM was planning to win back the constituency by contesting potential leaders there. For this, P Jayarajan’s name was also suggested. The support received by P Jayarajan from Thalassery and Koothuparamba in Kannur, and the acceptability of CPM in five constituencies in Kozhikode district was the reason to consider him.
Though police had earlier arrested CPM Kozhikode district secretary P Mohanan Master in connection with RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan murder case, the court had acquitted him. P Jayarajan was mentioned as a conspirator in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case. The new charge sheet against him could be used as evidence for the party’s involvement in conspiracy in the two murder cases.
Responding to mathrubhumi.com, P K Firoz, state general secretary of Youth League said the charge sheet has convinced people that the CPM party leadership gave guidance for the murders.
There were allegations against P Jayarajan in connection with the Shukkoor murder case from the beginning. The CBI charge sheet has proved the allegation. This is a serious incident and public should spurn such people in the election, said Firoz.
The Shukkoor murder case was given to CBI in 2016, and the charge sheet was submitted seven years after the incident.
