Thiruvananthapuram: T N Prathapan, UDF candidate in the Thrissur constituency has expressed his worries about the Lok Sabha poll results in a KPCC leaders meeting here on Tuesday. He said that the candidature of Suresh Gopi in Thrissur could adversely affect the election results and divide Hindu votes. Hindu votes of UDF may have gone for BJP and a negative result also could be expected, said Prathapan.
All 16 seats where Congress had contested were taken for discussion in the meeting and out of 16, all 15 candidates expressed their chances of victory except Prathapan.
A favourable condition was persisting in Thrissur. If Thushar Vellappally was the candidate in Thrissur, UDF candidate could have won with a margin of one lakh votes. Christian and Muslim votes were counted as UDF votes. However, the candidature of Suresh Gopi changed the situation and Hindu votes in large share have gone to BJP. Even the protest votes against the state government might have gone to BJP through Suresh Gopi. Deevara votes were also leaked, said Prathapan.
However, leaders including Oommen Chandy observed Thrissur as a potential winning seat for UDF. KPCC general secretary from Thrissur claimed that the UDF candidate will win here with a margin of 35,000 votes. Leaders including Benny Behanan said that Prathapan made these remarks out of his humility.
