Pressure to contest from Ponnani; Kunhalikutty refuses to give in
Kozhikode: The leadership of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) rejected the demand to exchange the constituencies of the sitting MPs after a discussion.
The party was under pressure with the demand to field P. K. Kunhalikutty in Ponnani and to shift E. T. Muhammed Basheer to Malappuram. Kunhalikkutty was firm on his stand that he would not contest the election if he is shifted to Ponnani. With this, the discussions came to an end.
A high level meeting convened in Malappuram the other day had come to an argument regarding seat divisions. When asked about the demand arising within the party to field Kunhalikutty in Ponnani, he replied that even discussion in this regard was irrelevant. He added that Muslim League was satisfied in the offer of Rajya Sabha seat.
A demand had arisen in the party working committee meeting that the party should contest in its strongholds. However, the leaders replied that they have to be satisfied with the Rajya Sabha seat. E. T. Muhammed Basheer and P. K. Kunhalikutty responded that they are delightfully taking up the responsibility given by the party.
Party national president K. M. Khader Moideen, K. P. A. Majeed and Panakkad Syed Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal also attended the press conference.
