Neck and neck fight between Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani in Amethi
Uttar Pradesh: Congress president Rahul Gandhi and BJP candidate Smriti Irani are facing a see-saw battle to win Amethi seat in Lok Sabha elections. As trends show, Rahul Gandhi is trailing to Smriti Irani.
The BJP candidate has secured 43,033 votes and Rahul Gandhi 38,615 votes as per Election Commission data released at 12.pm.
When BJP candidate leads with 49.01 percent of votes, Rahul Gandhi got 43.98 percent of votes. As a neck to neck battle is on between the candidates, all eyes are on Amethi.
In the initial hours, Rahul Gandhi was trailing to Smriti Irani by 2,500 votes.
Amethi in Uttar Pradesh has been Rahul Gandhi’s constituency since 2004. In the elections in 2014, Smriti Irani lost to Rahul in Amethi.
At the same time, Rahul Gandhi has confirmed his victory in his second seat Wayanad with a lead of over one lakh votes.
