LS Polls from April 11; results on May 23
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha elections in the country will be held in seven phases from April 11, 2019. The counting will take place on May 23. In Kerala, the polls will be held on April 23, in the third phase.
Sunil Arora, Chief Election Commissioner on Sunday announced the poll schedule. Total electorate in this Lok Sabha elections will be 900 million, of which 15 million voters are in the 18-19 age group. There will be approximately 10 lakh polling stations in this Lok Sabha Elections as compared to 9 lakh polling stations in 2014, he added.
"The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into effect from today itself in the entire country. Any violation will be dealt with in the strictest manner. The ‘voter verifiable paper audit trail' (VVPAT) will be used in all polling stations this time."
Arora said all political advertisements on social media will need pre-certification.
In 2014, the Lok Sabha elections were held across nine phases, beginning on April 7 and ending on May 9. The counting of votes took place on May 16.
