League unlikely to put pressure for 3rd seat; Crucial meet at Panakkad today
Malappuram: It is indicated that Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is not likely to pressurize Congress party for getting a third seat in the upcoming Parliament election. The Muslim League Parliamentary Party meeting to be held at Panakkad on Sunday will take an alternative decision in this regard. All MLAs and MPs of the party will attend the meeting.
As per reports, the League took this stand because it is unduly to highlight the issue of a single seat during the initial phase of the election which is considered crucial in the national politics. However, the fact that a demand for an extra seat was raised in both the League and ‘Samastha’, the organisation which functions close to the party, cannot be simply neglected.
With this, the party will have to take a strong stand in the meeting to be held on Sunday. The party has also assessed how it was put on defensive during the tenure of previous cabinet for claiming a fifth minister.
League state president Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal had clarified that the party will decide on the third seat even before the UDF meeting for candidate selection. It is pointed out that Samastha aimed at having one more member from their party to raise the issues of Muslim community in the parliament.
