Women’s Commission registers suo moto case against K Sudhakaran’s campaign video
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Women’s Commission registered a suo moto case against Congress Kannur Lok Sabha candidate K Sudhakaran for circulating a video insulting womanhood.
The case has been registered based on media reports. The women’s commission action comes after the video, released as part of Sudhakaran’s election campaign, created a controversy.
The complaint is against an advertisement video released by the Congress as part of their election campaign. The video features a statement “It was a waste to have let her study and become a teacher. She is not useful for anything” (Ole padippichu teacher aakkiyath verutheyayi, olekkondu onninum kollulla). The CPM pointed out that this statement is an insult on womanhood. CPM also alleged that the statement was targeted its candidate in the constituency P K Sreemathy, a retired teacher.
The statement is made while two characters are speaking to each other. One of them says “Now let him go, he is a male, he will do what is expected of him.” (Ini oon pokatte, oon aankuttiya, poya karyam sadhichitte varoo).
There was widespread criticism against the video particularly on social media. Following this, the women’s commission registered the case.
