Will BJP candidate list include K Surendran, Shobha Surendran, MT Ramesh?
New Delhi: With the LDF announcing the candidate list a week back and the UDF partially releasing the list, the BJP is likely to announce the candidate list on Monday. Though BDJS leader Thushar Vellapally is not interested in contesting, it looks like he will be forced to enter the fray owing to the pressure from the BJP central leadership.
As BJP is ready to offer the Thrissur seat to Thushar, most of the prominent personalities from the BJP is unlikely to contest this time. K Surendran had said that he is ready to face the battle only from Pathanamthitta or Thrissur. There are also reports that the leadership has asked him to face the ballot from Attingal. If Surendran accepts this offer, former BJP chief P K Krishnadas may not contest.
After Thiruvananthapuram, the BJP leaders are looking at Pathanamthitta as the hot seat. With Kummanam Rajashekaran assured of Thiruvananthapuram seat, many BJP leaders are eyeing Pathanamthitta. The state president of BJP P S Sreedharan Pillai who is keen on Thiruvananthapuram has now switched over to Pathanamthitta and he made it clear in his Delhi talks. Meanwhile, Alphons Kannathanam who too wanted to enter the fray from Pathanamthitta has been directed by the central leadership to take Ernakulam. But he too is keen on contesting only from Pathanamthitta.
M T Ramesh had earlier informed that he may be considered only from Pathanamthitta and he had expressed this even before the talks on seat allocation began. Ramesh also made it clear that he is not interested in contesting from anywhere else. Now Ramesh is being considered for Kozhikode. But it remains to be seen if he would take it up. If Ernakulam is given to BDJS and instead Kozhikode offered to him, then Ramesh may not take it up. Shobha Surendran is keen on contesting from Palakkad. When talks on Attingal began doing the rounds, Shobha had said that she would not contest from there.
If Thushar contests from Thrissur and Sreedharan Pillai from Pathanamthitta, then state general secretaries M T Ramesh and K Surendran may not enter the fray looking at their earlier promises. There are reports that C Krishnakumar, a supporter of V Muraleedharan, has been decided for Palakkad. In that case, after Ramesh and Surendran, even Shobha Surendran may be out of the list.
All eyes are on Tom Vadakkan, who recently joined the BJP from Congress. If Vadakkan is given Chalakudy and K S Radhakrishnan from Alappuzha, then BJP spokesperson B Gopalakrishnan will contest from which seat. The 4th general secretary of the party A N Radhakrishnan may be fielded from Ernakulam only. Kannanthanam is likely to contest from Ernakulam if he has to abide by the leadership directive. But then, A N Radhakrishnan too will be out.
C V Ananda Bose is being considered from Kollam. C K Padmanabhan who had contested from Kozhikode earlier will seek the mandate from Kannur this time, according to reports.
