Sabarimala issue did not affect polls; No plans to change style: Pinarayi Vijayan
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the Sabarimala issue has not affected the Lok Sabha Elections. If Sabarimala issue had influenced the elections, it would have benefitted BJP. But BJP was pushed behind in all constituencies including Pathanamthitta, he said. He made it clear that the debacle in election was not expected and it is only temporary failure.
The Sabarimala issue has not affected the election. If it had affected, the BJP would have been benefitted from it. They claimed that their candidate will win in Pathanamthitta, but nothing happened.
BJP misled the public regarding faith and belief and it should be examined. It was a supreme court verdict and no chief minister can neglect it. The state government did what any government would do in a similar situation, the chief minister said.
Those who did not want Modi government coming into power voted for Congress anticipating a better future. Thus UDF received more votes. The Lok Sabha poll results is not a verdict against the state government, he added.
He further said that the reason behind Rahul Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad is clear now and the LDF had pointed out earlier that his candidature would give a wrong message to the public.
Congress faced debacle in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. They could not win despite being in power there for months. Nobody understand that the condition of Congress is pathetic, he said.
The debacle in elections will be introspected by all committees including the state committee. The government still has public support, Pinarayi Vijayan said. When asked about changing his style, Pinarayi replied that he has no plans to change his style and that the public clearly know whose style is arrogant.
