Rajmohan Unnithan ends 35-year monopoly of CPM in Kasaragod
Kasaragod: Congress has seized a constituency that has been an LDF stronghold for over three decades. UDF candidate Raj Mohan Unnithan has won Kasaragod constituency with a lead of 40,438 votes. UDF become victorious in Kasaragod after 35 years. Periya twin murder has shaken Uduma, which has been favourable towards the Left. As BJP votes increased, the allegation that BJP votes were given to UDF became baseless.
According to preliminary assumptions, Periya murder and Sabarimala women entry issues have heightened the impact of LDF's failure. The candidature of Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad has reflected in Kasaragod just like all the other constituencies in the state. This played a major role in Unnithan's victory too.
Rajmohan Unnithan had contested against LDF candidate Satheesh Chandran and NDA candidate Ravisha Tantri Kuntar.
