No anti-government wave, says P Jayarajan
Kannur: CPM leader P. Jayarajan stated that LDF suffered a setback in the Lok Sabha elections as a result of the campaign among the minorities exploiting the Modi fear factor. He also told the media that booth level introspection will be held to find out the reasons behind the failure and will take further action.
Jayarajan also claimed that the LDF’s failure in election is not part of the anti-Left wave. The expected votes were lost after Muslim League, Jamaat and SDPI conducted planned campaign among the minorities highlighting the fear factor. The Muslim minorities thought that it is better to vote for Congress to stop BJP from coming back to power, he said.
The religious fundamentalists spread the message that Congress is capable of resisting BJP. In fact, is the LDF that spearheads the secular forces in Kerala. The LDF tried to convince the public that the real secular power is the Left front. A section of people refused to believe it and this resulted in the failure of LDF, Jayarajan said.
Compared to the previous Lok Sabha results, there is an increase of 30,000 votes in Vadakara constituency. This is the reflection of the public opinion towards LDF. Meanwhile, the votes received in the assembly polls were lost this time, he clarified.
The battle to protect secularism was spearheaded by LDF and not Congress, he stated. The aforementioned forces tried to convince the minorities highlighting the weakness of Left front in national level. The setback resulted from this, Jayarajan said.
