Maoist threat to Wayanad candidates; Gunmen appointed
Thiruvananthapuram: The Lok Sabha candidates in Wayanad constituency are under threat of Maoists, according to a Special Branch report. Following the report, gunmen have been deployed for the security of the candidates. Also it has been decided to ensure police security in the campaign programmes held on forest borders.
NDA candidate Thushar Vellappally will file a complaint to DGP and Home Secretary in connection with the threat. The Maoist threat has come at a time when national leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah and Sitaram Yechury were scheduled to reach Wayanad next week for campaign.
Maoist posters were continuously spotted at places in Wayanad. In the backdrop of the intelligence report, the police have decided to appoint an additional policeman for the security of LDF candidate P. P. Suneer and NDA candidate Thushar Vellappally.
