Machete at LDF poll campaign in Palakkad; Youth Congress files complaint
Palakkad: The Youth Congress has petitioned the Election Commission (EC) following an incident were a machete fell off a vehicle during LDF candidate M B Rajesh’s election campaign.
Citing that the incident was an effort to sabotage the Lok Sabha polls, Youth Congress leader M Dhaneesh Lal submitted a petition to Chief Election Officer Teeka Ram Meena. According to the petitioner, the incident revealed an effort to create violence and to keep people in fear.
The incident occurred at Pulappatta in Ottappalam on Friday evening. Several bikes were accompanying LDF candidate M B Rajesh who was campaigning in the area. While moving together, one of the bikes fell down and a machete fell from the bike onto the road. As people started noticing the machete, the other bikes surrounded the bike. The activists then picked up the bike and the machete before leaving the spot.
Following the incident, both the Congress and BJP had come out against LDF. They alleged that the incident was proof of LDF instigating violence.
The spot where the incident took place and its surrounding areas including Pulappatta, Ummanazhi and Konikkazhi are infamous for violence between CPM-Congress and CPM-BJP.
