Letter sent to EC claiming PJ Joseph to be party chairman
Kottayam: A letter has been sent to the Election Commission pointing out that P. J. Joseph is the chairman of Kerala Congress (M). The letter was sent by Kerala Congress (M) organisational secretary Joy Abraham while the Mani faction has been demanding to elect the chairman convening the state committee.
By sending the letter, the Joseph faction aims to ensure their dominance in the party even before convening the state committee. It is noteworthy that Joy Abraham who belong to Mani faction sent the letter in this regard. Earlier, he had also issued a circular in favour of Joseph. It was noted in the circular that in the absence of chairman, the position will be bestowed upon the working chairman.
Meanwhile, the Joseph faction has no clear majority in either the parliamentary party of Kerala Congress (M) or its state committee. The Mani faction has majority in the parliamentary party. According to the party by-law, not only MLAs but also MPs are part of the parliamentary party.
MP Jose K. Mani, newly elected MP Thomas Chazhikkadan, MLAs N. Jayaraj and Roshy Augustine belong to the Mani faction. Mons Joseph is with P. J. Joseph faction. C. F. Thomas has not clarified his stand though he supports K. M. Mani.
