Don't allow to vote wearing niqab, demands MV Jayarajan; Kodiyeri differs
Kannur: CPM Kannur district secretary MV Jayarajan has demanded not to allow persons who are wearing niqab to vote. The niqab should be removed while standing in queue for voting, said Jayarajan at a program in Kannur.
The person should be allowed to vote in a way that it should be clearly caught on CCTV cameras installed in polling booths. Will the election commission be ready to conduct such a poll? If this is done, LDF will win in all seats where UDF wins.
After Jayarajan’s statement stirred controversy, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has given out an explanation. He said that there is nothing wrong in wearing the niqab and coming to polls. They are entitled to come wearing any dress. But if booth agents ask them to show face, the veil should be removed.
