Thodupuzha: The Congress is looking at options to field P J Joseph, who is cross with the party in the name of Lok Sabha seat, as an independent candidate from Idukki. Discussions with Muslim League and other factions in UDF are progressing in this regard. It is learnt that K M Mani has also agreed with the idea.
UDF is likely to hold a meeting after discussing the matter with Rahul Gandhi at Kozhikode. The new move came after assuming that there would be a backlash in the Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Kottayam seats if P J Joseph is not in good terms with the party.
However, the Congress thinks that retrieving Kottayam seat would provoke K M Mani. So, the Joseph faction believe that the Congress would compromise the Idukki seat to appease K M Mani.
Mani faction also thinks that giving Idukki seat to Joseph would help them in convincing him to campaign for Thomas Chazhikkadan in Kottayam. Decision on this would be taken by the Congress after holding discussions with the other factions in the party.
