Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala asked whether LDF would withdraw their candidate if Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad. He also asked what message CPM intends to convey by fielding a Left candidate against Rahul Gandhi. He was addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had questioned Rahul Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad the other day. He said that Rahul contesting from Wayanad sends out the message that Congress is battling against the Left front and not BJP. He also asked what message Congress intends to give in the national level with this move. Ramesh Chennithala’s response came as a reply to this.
‘Pinarayi Vijayan has a blind hatred towards Congress. He had alienated Sitaram Yechury who tried to make an alliance with Congress in national level. What message did CPM give by opposing a national democratic platform?’ he asked.
It was CPM who strongly opposed Rahul’s candidature in Wayanad rather than BJP. It would be a Himalayan Blunder not to support Rahul Gandhi. This will be a golden opportunity for the people of Kerala to fight BJP. By contesting against Rahul Gandhi, what message do they give to the public? CPM has to review their stand, Ramesh Chennithala said.
Chennithala added that they all want a confirmation regarding the candidature of Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad. The people of Kerala want Rahul Gandhi to contest from Kerala. He added that they request Rahul to take a favourable stand in this matter.
