Bogus voting at Udumbanchola: Collector to open strong room
Painavu: Idukki collector H Dinesh said that an inspection will be held after opening the strong room following a complaint of bogus voting at Udumbanchola in the district during the Lok Sabha polls. Chief agents of the candidates will be issued a notice in this regard.
The UDF had filed a complaint with the district collector alleging that bogus voting had taken place in booths 66 and 69. Following this, the collector had called up the accused, Ranjith for a hearing.
The UDF accused that Ranjith is a DYFI activist. However, during the hearing, Ranjith gave a statement that he had voted in booth 69 alone.
Ranjith has two identity cards. Ranjith said that he had applied for a new identity card when he changed his address. However, someone else collected this ID card. And as such, someone else casted his vote, argued Ranjith.
The collector has decided to hold a meeting with the booth officers on Wednesday. Following the meeting, the collector will take a final decision on whether to open the strong room.
The collector had started an inquiry on Monday following a bogus voting complaint from UDF.
