32.5 pc voter turnout in Kerala till noon; Kottayam highest voting percentage
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 32.5 per cent voting till 12 PM on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha elections. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor and Union minister, Alphons Kannamthanam are the key contenders in Kerala.
Though complaints of technical glitches in voting machines were reported in some places, majority of polling stations witnessed heavy rush and long queues since morning.
Cutting across cities and villages, women, senior citizens and first-time electors turned up in large numbers to exercise their franchise in the initial hours.
According to Election Commission sources, Kottayam witnessed the highest voting percentage at 12 PM –31.86 per cent, while Vadakara registered the lowest- 24.17 per cent.
The capital city of Thiruvananthapuram recorded a good voter turnout of 27.52 percent at 12 pm. Mavellikara recorded 25.47 pc, Idukki 30.11 pc, Ernakulam 26.3 pc, Chalakudy 30.16 pc, Thrissur 30.12 pc, Palakkad 24.51 pc, Kozhikode 27.11 pc, Wayanad 31.49 pc and Kannur 29.59 pc.
The high profile Wayanad contituency, where Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is seeking mandate, witnessed 11.87 per cent so far, they said.
