Thalassery: At least 10 deaths were reported from various places in Kerala on Tuesday while polling was underway for 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state. However, the Election Commission said it had nothing to do with voting. The state poll panel asked the district collectorate to compile the figures as the incidents were reported in Kasaragod, Kollam, Kannur, Ernakulam, Wayanad among others when Kerala voted in the third phase of the staggered process.
In the first incident M P Chacko Mathai, 77, died after casting his vote from Vadasserikara in Pathanamthitta.
In another incident, an elderly woman who had come to vote at Chokli in Vadakara constituency collapsed and died. Kaajirathin Keezhil Mootoli Vijayi (66) is the deceased. Vijayi had come to the Ramavilasam Higher Secondary School 158 number booth and was standing in the queue when she collapsed and died. Vijayi was ailing for quite some time and had come to vote along with her son. Though she felt uneasy and collapsed while standing in the queue, she was rushed to a nearby hospital but her life could not be saved.
In Kilikkolloor of Kollam, Mani (63) collapsed and died. He collapsed during speaking with the polling officer after his name was missing in the voters list.
Kasaragod Pulloor native KR Baburaj died while going to the polling booth. Also Palakkad Vadavannoor native Malayambalath Mehabooba also died at the polling booth. She collapsed while indelible ink was being applied on finger.
In Thalayolaparamba, Rosamma Ousep (84) died on her way to the polling booth. She fell unconscious when trying to enter an auto rickshaw to take her to the polling booth.
Three deaths were reported from Kannur district, where Venugopala Marar (72) collapsed soon after he returned home after casting his vote. He was rushed to a hospital, but could not be saved.
Mattam Vadak Peringattam Pallil Prabhakaran (74) has died after collapsing. In Thalassery constituency, Muslim league leader AK Musthafa (52) passed away at a polling station.
Theresiyamma, 87, died after collecting her voter slip inside a booth near Ernakulam.
