UGC has invited applications for the Swami Vivekananda Fellowship for Single Girl Child for research in Social Sciences with an aim to compensate direct costs of higher education especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family.

Eligibility: Applicant should be a single girl child of her parents (without having any brother or sister). In a family with one son and one daughter, the girl child will not be eligible. Twin daughters/Fraternal daughter may apply for the fellowship. Proof of being single girl child has to be submitted on an affidavit of Rs.50/- Stamp paper from the fellow/parent duly attested by SDM/First Class Magistrate/Gazetted Officer (not below the rank of Tahsildar) as per the prescribed proforma (Annexure I) at the time of filling the online application.

Applicant should have registered herself in regular, fulltime Ph. D. program in Social Sciences in one of (i) Universities/Colleges/Institutes included under section 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC Act, 1956 (ii) Deemed to be Universities under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 which are eligible to receive grant in aid from UGC (iii) Universities/Colleges/Institutes funded by Central/ State Govt (iv) Institutes of National Importance. Admission to Ph.D. Course in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme. 

Applicant of General category should not be over the age of 40 years. Upper age limit will be 45 years for SC/ST/OBC and PWD (Persons with Disabilities) as on the last date of submission of online application. Transgender candidates are eligible to apply under the scheme as per the norms.

Assistance: The number of slots for fellowship may be decided every year on the basis of eligible applications complete in all respects, received through online mode.

The financial assistance available under the scheme includes Fellowship of Rs.25,000/- p.m. for Initial two years and Rs. 28,000/- p.m. for remaining tenure. In addition, the scholar will also receive, Contingency @ Rs. 10,000/- p.a. for initial two years and @ Rs.20,500/- p.a. for remaining tenure. Escorts/Reader assistance of Rs. 2,000/- p.m. will be given for PWD candidates. Fellowship will be granted up to the date of submission of Ph.D. thesis or 5 years of tenure whichever is earlier.

Applications are to be submitted online at within 2 months of publication of the Notification (It was published in dailies on November 8, 2018).

The documents to be uploaded include, (i) Caste Certificate (in Case of SC/ST/OBC) issued by competent authority (Tehsildar/SDM etc.) (ii) Certificate of Proof of age (Xth certificate, School Leaving Certificate etc) (iii) Proof of admission in Ph.D. degree course in a recognized Indian University covered under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act (iv) A certificate from the University/Institute where student has taken admission to Ph.D. Course (v)Proof of being single girl child-An affidavit on Rs.50/- Stamp paper from the student/parent duly attested by SDM/First Class Magistrate/Gazetted Officer (not below the rank of Tahsildar) (vi) Mark sheet for Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree (vii) Undertaking/NOC Form as per the format given (viii) Person with Disability(PwD) Certificate (if applicable).  One will not be able to submit her application unless above mentioned documents are uploaded.

Application form can be filled in 4 steps (i) Step-1: Applicants should fill-in personal information including caste and physical disability certificate (if applicable). A candidate registration id will be generated on completion of step 1 that can be used for generating a pdf file once submission process is completed (ii) Step-2: Applicant should fill-in Research Information including Subject, Research topic, Department etc (iii) Step-3: Applicant should fill-in other information, including paper published & Scholarships/Present employment etc. (iv) Step-4: Applicant has to complete the declaration.
