Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has invited applications for Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE), a component of Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) scheme of the Department.
A total of 10,000 scholarships are given annually under SHE to those who have passed Class XII in the year 2020 from recognized Indian State and Central Boards and are studying regular three year B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), four years B.S or five years integrated M.Sc./M.S. programs in Natural/Basic Sciences in any UGC recognized College/ University/Institutions in India. The subjects under Basic and Natural Sciences within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship for pursuing B.Sc./BS/Int. MSc/Int. MS course are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Geology, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Bio-chemistry, Anthropology, Microbiology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Atmospheric Sciences & Oceanic Sciences.
The Scheme does not include courses in Engineering, Medicine, Technology and other Professional/Technical /Applied science courses.
Value: Annual Scholarship value is Rs.80, 000/-. The cash value payable is Rs. 60,000/- per annum along with a summer time attachment fee of Rs. 20,000/- which will be paid only to those who undertake summer time research project.
Duration: Support is for a maximum period of five years starting from 1st year course in B.Sc./ B.Sc.(Hons)/ BS and integrated course leading to M.S. or M.Sc. or till the completion of the course, whichever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for selected candidates is based on performance in the examinations conducted & certified by the institution.
Eligibility: Applicant should be in the age group of 17-22 years and should have passed Class XII Board Examination in the year 2020. Applicant must be already enrolled into a valid and regular degree level course in Natural / Basic sciences within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship at any UGC recognized College or University or National Institute in India. The course should not be Correspondence course.
Applicant should satisfy one of the merit criteria mentioned, related to the Plus 2 level examination passed or performance in any National level examination evaluated based on stipulated cut-off ranks as given in the Notification or based on various scholarships or medals received.
Criterion 1: Applications can be submitted based on the performance in Board Examinations. Those coming within the cut-off threshold (top 1%) for each State or Central Board Examination in the year 2020 at Class XII level are eligible to apply. The cut off for 2020 has not yet been finalized by the authorities as of now. The cut-off of 2020 for respective Boards shall be finalized in due course for evaluation purposes. Criterion 2: Those coming within the top 10,000 Rank as per Common Merit List (CML) in JEE (Main)/ JEE (Advanced) /NEET for Medical; All Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) Fellows, National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Scholars, International Olympiad Medalists and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) Scholars are eligible to apply.
Criterion 3: Those admitted to 4 years BS or 5 years Integrated M.Sc. programs in Basic & Natural Sciences at all Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) after coming within top 10,000 rank in JEE (Advanced); those admitted at all Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISERs), National Institute of Science Education & Research (NISER), Department of Atomic Energy - Centre for Basic Science (DAE - CBS) & coming within top 1% or falling within 10000 rank in JEE/NEET etc; those admitted to a University at Under-graduate or Integrated M. Sc. program in Natural Sciences and Basic Sciences following National Level Competitive Examinations including JEE/NEET can apply based on criterion 3.
Selection: In the case of receiving more than 10,000 eligible applications in the given year, the selection will be on the basis of Board inclusive model within the available number of Scholarships in that year.
