scholarshipDepartment of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, has invited applications for the ‘Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)’, a component of ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’.

A total of 12,000 (including Institute Mode) scholarships are given annually under SHE to those who have passed Class XII in 2018 only, from recognized Indian State and Central Boards and studying regular three years B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), four years B.S or five years integrated M.Sc./M.S. programs in Natural/Basic Sciences at any UGC recognized College/ University/Institutions in India.

The Scheme in its current format does not include courses in Engineering, Medicine, Technology and other Professional/Technical /Applied Science courses.

Value & Type of Support: Each eligible candidate will receive scholarship valued at Rs. 80,000/- annually. The cash value payable to the SHE scholarship holder is Rs. 60,000/- per annum along with a summer time attachment fee of Rs. 20,000/- which will be paid for undertaking summer time research project.

Duration of the Support: Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting from 1st year course in B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), BS and integrated course leading to M.S. or M.Sc or till the completion of the course, whichever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for selected candidates is based on performance in the examinations conducted and certified by the institution imparting education.

Eligibility: Applicant should be in age group of 17-22 years and should have passed Class XII Board Examination in 2018. Those who have passed Class XII examination in the previous years will not be considered.

Eligible subjects: Applicant should be enrolled in a valid and regular degree level course in Natural / Basic sciences within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship at any UGC recognized College or University or National Institute in India. The subjects under Basic and Natural Sciences within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship for pursuing B.Sc./BS/Int. MSc/Int. MS course are (1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) Biology, (5) Statistics, (6) Geology, (7) Astrophysics, (8) Astronomy, (9) Electronics, (10) Botany, (11) Zoology, (12) Bio-chemistry, (13) Anthropology, (14) Microbiology, (15) Geophysics, (16) Geochemistry, (17) Atmospheric Sciences & (18) Oceanic Sciences. Those enrolled for correspondence courses are not eligible.

Academic eligibility: Applicant should satisfy one of the 3 criteria prescribed.

Criterion 1: Applications can be submitted based on the performance in Board Examinations. Those coming within the cut-off threshold (top 1%) for each State or Central Board Examination in the year 2018 at Class XII level are eligible to apply. The cut off for 2018 has not yet been finalised by the authorities. Criterion 2: Those coming within the  top 10,000 Rank as per Common Merit List (CML) in JEE (Main)/ JEE (Advanced) /AIPMT or NEET for Medical; All Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) Fellows, National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Scholars, International Olympiad Medalists and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) Scholars are eligible to apply. 

Criterion 3: Those admitted to 4 years BS or 5 years Integrated M.Sc. programs in Basic & Natural Sciences at all Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) after coming within top 10,000 rank in JEE (Advanced); those admitted at all Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISERs), National Institute of Science Education & Research (NISER), Department of Atomic Energy - Centre for Basic Science (DAE - CBS) & coming within  top 1% or falling within 10000 rank in JEE/NEET etc; those admitted to a University at Under-graduate or Integrated M. Sc. program in Natural Sciences and Basic Sciences following National Level Competitive Examinations including JEE/AIPMT/NEET can apply based on criterion 3.

Selection Criteria: In the case the number of applications exceeds 12000; the selection will be on the basis of Board inclusive model within the available number of Scholarships. The selection will be subject to evaluation of each completed online application based on the above eligibility criteria including finalization of actual top 1% cut-off of Class 12th examination 2018 for each Board. Applicant should use his/her own valid and functional email address for submission of the On-line application. The status of the application will be informed only through On-line portal to the applicant.

Before filling application form, applicant is required to scan and store the following documents as separate files and the same needs to be uploaded as required during the ‘On-line Application’ process. The mandatory documents are (i) Passport size photograph (ii) Class XII Mark sheet (iii) Class X Mark sheet or Certificate, for proof of Date of Birth (iv) Endorsement Form/ Certificate signed by the Principal of the College/Director of the Institute/Registrar of the University

The Other documents to be uploaded if applicable are (i)  Community/Caste Certificate if the applicant belongs to OBC/SC/ST (ii)  Eligibility Note/Advisory Note if provided by the State/Central Board (iii) Certificate specifying Rank or Award in JEE (Main)/ JEE (Advanced)/ NEET/KVPY /JBNSTS/ NTSE / International Olympic Medalists, if the candidate is applying as per this criteria (viii) Any other supporting documents

Photo should be in JPEG format, with size not exceeding 50 KB. All other documents should be in pdf format with size not exceeding 1 MB.

Once the application is submitted, a page will appear mentioning that the application has been submitted successfully. Applicant should note the Application Reference No. /IVR No. for future reference and correspondence. Applicant may take a print out of the submitted online application for his/her records. Application printout or any other documents which are submitted online need not be sent by Post to any office.
