National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, Anushakti Bhavan, C.S.M. Marg, Mumbai-400 001, has invited applications for the NBHM Doctoral Scholarship Test.
The test is the first of two steps in the selection process for the NBHM Doctoral Scholarship given to support pursuit of research leading to the PhD degree in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics. To qualify for it, one must qualify in the test and the subsequent interview and also enrol by January 2022 (if not already enrolled) in a recognised PhD programme in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics in a university or institution in India.
The test scores are used by the following institutions to screen candidates for admission to their PhD/Integrated PhD programs: ● Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI), Prayagraj ● Indian Institute of Science Education and Re-search (IISER) - Berhampur, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram ● National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar● The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai.
Eligibility: Applicant should be enrolled in a full time PhD programme in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics in a recognised university or institution in India or aspiring to enrol in such a programme by January 2022 or aspiring for selection in the next round of recruitment for the Integrated PhD programme in Mathematics of an institution that receives from NBHM the test scores for screening for admission to that programme (such as the seven mentioned above).
Details of the scholarship: The scholarship is initially granted for a term of four years, to be renewed every year, subject to satisfactory progress and also extendable to a fifth year at NBHM’s discretion. It consists of a monthly stipend of Rs.31,000/- for the first two years, to be increased, based upon the recommendation of the committee appointed by the scholar’s institution to monitor the scholar’s progress, to Rs. 35,000/- for the subsequent years; and a yearly contingency grant of Rs. 40,000/-. In addition, House Rent Allowance (HRA) is payable as per central government norms.
Test: The NBHM Doctoral Scholarship Written Test is to be held from 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs on 11th April 2021 (Sunday). It will be one of subject skills that are important for pursuing a doctoral degree in Mathematics / Applied mathematics. Question papers from previous years along with their keys are available at https://www.imsc.res.in/~nbhm/qp/. The pattern and difficulty level of this year’s test may however bear no predictable relation to those in the previous years. The test will be conducted at centres divided into five geographical zones as per the details given in the detailed Notification at https://nbhmscholarship.in/
Application: Applications can be submitted online at https://nbhmscholarship.in/ latest by 24th March, 2021.
Application fee for applications completed by 13th March, is Rs.400/- and for those completed after that date, is Rs.600/-. Centre-wise lists of candidates will be published in three instalments on 16th March; 23rd March and 28th March, 2021.
