National Talent Search Examination by NCERT: Scholarships for study from Class 11
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi -110016, has notified the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for 2019-20.
NTSE, conducted for students studying in Class X during 2019-20, is meant to identify the nurture talent and for the award of two thousand scholarships for different stages of education. Those becoming eligible for the scholarship will receive an amount of Rs.1250/- per month for studies in Classes XI and XII and Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Post-graduate studies. The Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.
Eligibility: Applicant should be studying in Class X during 2019-20, in recognized schools to be eligible to appear for the Stage-I examination, conducted by the States/UTs, in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction. Students registered under Open Distance Learning (ODL) will also be eligible for scholarship, provided the student is below the age of 18 years as on 1st July of the particular year, the student is not employed and s/he is appearing in class X examination for the first time.
Selection: The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is conducted at two levels: Stage-I will be the State Level test to be conducted by the states and Stage-II, the National Level test. For Stage I and II, there will be two papers, each of 2 hours duration and each carrying 100 questions, each with 1 mark. Paper I will be the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Paper II, the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Those who are selected/recommended from Stage-I examination, will be eligible to appear for Stage-II examination, to be conducted by NCERT. Qualifying Marks for the stage I examination will be 40% in each paper for General/OBC & EWS candidates and 32% in each paper for SC/ST/PH category candidates. If there is any change in pattern for Stage-II examination, it will be communicated later on through NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in. Applicants may keep track of updates on NCERT website.
Reservation: At the national level for Stage-II Examination 15% for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% for students belonging to the ST category and 27% for students belonging to OBC category (Non-creamy layer), 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) those who have not covered under the reservation scheme for SCs/STs/OBCs, 4% for Children with benchmark disabilities of which, one per cent each shall be reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities under (a) blindness and low vision; (BLV) (b) deaf and hard of hearing; (DH) (c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; (LD) and one per cent for persons with benchmark disabilities under (d) autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; (AID) (c) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (MD)
Dates of Examination: Stage I examination will be held on 2nd November, 2019 (Saturday) in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It will be held on 17th November, 2019 (Sunday) in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, NCT of Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. In all other States and Union Territories, it will be on 3rd November, 2019 (Sunday).
Stage-II (National) level examination will be held on 10th May, 2020 (Sunday)
Application: For the State level examination, application is to be submitted to the State/UT authority identified for the conduct of the examination. Last Date for Submission of Application Form will be notified by the respective States. It may vary from state to state.
The completed application form should be signed by the Principal of the school. Different states may have different last dates for submission. Applicants may confirm from the Liaison Officer of the concerned state, the address at which the completed forms are to be submitted. All queries related to application form should be directed to the State liaison Officers (LOs). No application should be sent to NCERT.
Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required which will have to be paid for the Stage-I examination. Applicants before submitting the application form may find out the fees charged for Stage-I Examination and also the mode of payment from the respective State Liaison Officers (LOs). NCERT does not charge any fee for Stage-II examination.
Indian Students Studying Abroad in Class X can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure, which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up the Application Form available on the NCERT’s website and send to ‘Head, Education Survey Division, National Council of Education Research and Training, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110016’, along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination, latest by December 31, 2019. Application Form for students studying abroad will be uploaded on NCERT website in the month of October, 2019. Announcement for students of Indian nationality studying abroad will be announced separately.
