Central Sector Scholarship for UG studies: Apply by Oct 31
Thiruvananthapuram: The Director of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala, has invited applications for the Central Sector Scholarship for 2017.
The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students (CSSS) is being implemented by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is a merit-cum-means scholarship which aims at providing financial assistance to meritorious students, to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
Eligibility: Applicant should have passed the Class-XII Higher/Vocational Higher Secondary Examination in the academic Year 2016-17 and should be in the top 20% of students who have scored the maximum marks in Class-XII results of concerned Board. Applicant should be pursuing a regular course at the Under Graduate level and should be in the age-group 18 to 25. Annual family income of the applicant should be less than Rs.6 lakh. Applicant should not be receiving any other scholarship.
Rate of Scholarship: The rate of scholarship is Rs. 10000 per annum at Graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and Rs. 20000/- per annum at Post-Graduation level. Students pursuing professional courses are paid Rs. 20,000/- per annum in the 4th and 5th year.
Reservation: Scholarships would be allotted among boys and girls in the ratio, 1:1. Scholarships will be allotted to Science, Commerce and Humanities streams, in the ratio, 3:2:1. Reservation for SC applicants will be 15 %, for ST-7.5 % and for OBC-27 %. A 3 % horizontal reservation is provided for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
No of Scholarships: For Kerala, a total of 2324 scholarships will be available for the year 2017.
Renewal: Scholarship is renewed on annual basis, up to a maximum of 5 years till Post Graduate level in the same stream. For all professional courses, scholarship will be renewed till the Graduation level. The renewal of scholarship is further subject to the student securing 60% or more marks for the two preceding semesters or annual examination which determines his/her promotion to the next class, maintaining of attendance of at least 75 % by the scholars and maintaining discipline (the scholars should not have been involved in any ragging activities).
Scholarship is disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiary. Students are required to seed the Aadhaar with the bank account as mentioned in the application form.
Application: Applications are to be submitted online, at the National Scholarship Portal, www.scholarships.gov.in, latest by 31.10.2017. Before registering on the National Scholarship Portal, students should keep the following documents ready with them (i) Bank Passbook for filling bank details (ii) Aadhaar card No. (iii) Parental income certificate (iv) A valid mobile number (v) An e-mail ID (vi)Caste certificate wherever required (vii) Disability certificate wherever required. After filling the personal details, students are required to select ‘Post-Matric’ option from the drop down menu, and select the ‘Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students’.
Applicants will be required to upload copies of the Mark list of Higher/Vocational Higher Secondary Mark sheet, Community certificate, Income Certificate, Nativity Certificate, PwD Certificate (if applicable) etc. A copy of them must be submitted to the Head of the Institution.
Students who have completed Class-XII in 2015-16 and 2016-17 and who have received the scholarship for the previous year(s) can apply on the National Scholarship Portal http://scholarships.gov.in/ for 2nd renewal (2015-16) and 1st renewal (2016-17).
