New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has given the nod to turn Vedavyasa Vidyalayam Senior Secondary School in Kozhikode, a unit of Bharatiya Vidya Nikethan, into Sainik School. It is a part of the scheme to privatise Sainik Schools.
This will be the first Sainik School in the private sector in Kerala. The only Sainik School in Kerala at Kazhakkoottam in Thiruvananthapuram was on the verge of closure due to lack of funding earlier this year.
Adani Community Empowerment Foundation (Andhra Pradesh), Keshav Saraswati Vidya Mandir (Bihar), Dudhsagar Research and Development Association (Gujarat), Baba Mastnath Ayurvedic-Sanskrit Shikshan Sansthan (Haryana), Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (Karnataka), and SK International School (Maharashtra) are the other schools selected during the second phase. 12 schools were granted permission during the first phase.
