Students of MG University can now avail maternity leave; first in Kerala

Kottayam: In a first in Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University has announced maternity leave for its students.

Previously, their absence from college due to pregnancy or delivery affected their course work. Now that maternity leave is legal, they can continue to study without interruption.

It is available to all female students over 18 in all departments of the university campus and affiliated colleges. Students of UG, PG, integrated courses and professional courses can avail leave of 60 days.

This is the first university in Kerala to offer maternity leave to its students.

For abortion and tubectomy, 14 days of leave can be availed.
