Kollam: University Grants Commission gave the nod to launch four under graduation courses and two post graduation courses at the Sree Narayana Guru Open University soon. Vice-chancellor Dr PM Mubarak Pasha said that the university has been permitted to launch fresh graduation courses in history, philosophy, sociology and economics while opening new post graduation courses in history and sociology.
Candidates can apply for the courses on sgou.ac.in between March 1 and 31.
As of now, Sree Narayana Guru Open University offers graduate courses in Malayalam, English, Sanskrit, Arabic, and Hindi, as well as postgraduate courses in English and Malayalam. The university has 14 study centers that serve 5,409 students.
The university has decided to implement a detailed curriculum for the people’s representatives in the local self-government bodies, who have completed the certificate course organised in partnership with Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA). Additionally, the second batch of certificate courses will be offered this year for both people's representatives and the general public.
The university is attempting to resume the studies of all who could not pursue higher education in the state. Special programmes will be introduced with the support of local governing bodies for this, said the VC. ‘Darpanam’, a four-year programme launched jointly by the university, Kasaragod district panchayat and ASAP is an example of this, he added.
