National Institute of Immunology (NII), an autonomous research institute of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India; Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, New Delhi-110067 has invited applications for admission to its Ph.D. Programme for the academic year 2023-24. Those selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.
NII is engaged in research in broad interdisciplinary areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology and Computational Biology.
Eligibility: Applicant should hold an M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) or M.Tech/ M.B.B.S/M.VSc/M.Pharm/Integrated M.Sc., or equivalent qualification as per the norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
Applicant should have scored at least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor’s degree and 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master’s degree. Applicants belonging to OBC (NCL), SC/ST, PwD and EWS will get a relaxation of 5% marks.
Those appearing for the qualifying examination in 2022-23 are also eligible to apply. They will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfilment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining.
Reservations of seats: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (NCL) and 5% for persons with disability (PwD) as per statutory norms.
Selection procedure: Selection will be made through 2 channels. Selection in Channel 1 will be based on a Computer-based Entrance Examination to be conducted by NII at multiple centres across India on 26th February 2023 (Sunday). Channel 2 selection will be based on Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023). Candidates must appear in at least one of these two examinations. Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023.
Application: Applications can be submitted at the Ph.D admission link at http://www.nii.res.in latest by 20th January, 2023. Online application fee is Rs.1200/- (Rs.600/- for SC/ST/PwD/EWS). Those applying through JGEEBILS-2023 must also submit application through NII application portal, along with application fees.
The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII website and Notice Board on or before 15th April, 2023. Interviews will be held online during 6th to 13th June, 2023.
The programme will start on 3rd July 2023. NII currently provides Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.31000/- per month to the selected candidates. Awardees of fellowships from CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT or and DST, may avail them as per rules of the respective funding agency.
NII is a residential campus and shared hostel accommodation will be provided to all the students admitted to the program.
