'Perseverance and hard work', says Kottayam girl who bagged sixth rank in UPSC CSE 2022

Kozhikode: Malayali girl Gahana Navya James could not contain her excitement when UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) results were announced on Tuesday.

In a remarkable feat, Gahana has bagged sixth rank in the CSE 2022 in her second attempt.

Daughter of retired professors Dr PK James and Deepa George, the Kottayam native attributes her victory to perseverance and hard work. Although she was unable to crack the prelims on her first attempt, she remained determined to follow her dreams.

“I have been passionate about civil services since my childhood. I have been an ardent follower of foreign policies and international relations,” says Gahana, who is pursuing PhD at Mahatma Gandhi University.

“My uncle and the Indian ambassador in Japan, Sibi George, has been my biggest inspiration in life. My brother also supported me," she added.

Gahana James, who secured an A plus in all her subjects in SSLC exams, went on to achieve the first rank in her graduation (BA History) and post-graduation (Political Science) studies too.
