Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala general education minister V Sivankutty has said that the department is planning to provide a 100 gram peanut candy bar in the midday meal scheme once a week in schools in Wayanad, Idukki and Adivasi areas in Palakkad.
Talking at a meeting of the midday meal scheme officers and supervisors, the minister added that a vegetable garden would be set up in every school in the state within November. The vegetables produced in the garden would be used for preparing food at the school.
Sivankutty also said that the benefits of the officers and supervisors would be increased. Over 2,200 schools were providing breakfast to the students with the help of local self governing bodies and school PTA, the minister said. He urged the supervisors and officers to work towards spreading it to more schools.
He further said that every cook would be given training this year with the help of the State Food Craft Institute.
