Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan Contest for School students: Apply by September 30
Vigyan Prasar, a national Institute for Science and Technology Communication, established under Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in association with National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) and Vijnana Bharati, an NGO led by eminent scientists, is conducting the Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) for students of Class 6 to Class 11, studying under CBSE,ICSE and State Boards.
VVM is a national program for educating and popularizing science among school students of VI to XI standards. VVM also endeavours to identify the bright minds among the student community, who are keen on subjects related to science. It also aims to provide a platform for inculcating and generating interest in pure science.
Registered students will undergo multi-level testing and successful students will get a chance to undertake study tours and visits to reputed National Science Laboratories and Centres and interactions with renowned scientists of the country. The VVM will identify Vigyan Jigyasu, Keen Knowledge Seeker of Science, at National level.
VVM will be held in three stages, the School level examination in first stage, followed by the State Level Camp in second stage and the National Camp in the third stage. The Multi-Level Testing Procedures in the 3 stages will include Objective type question answering; Comprehensive writing; Presentation and Group discussion; Role play; Practical examination; Methods of Science etc.
School-Level Exam (Junior and Senior):
The School level Examination will be of 2 hours, with 100 multiple choice questions each carrying 1 mark from, Science and Mathematics from text books (50%); Indian Contributions to Science (20%); Life stories of Dr. Meghnad Saha and Srinivasa Ramanujan (20%) and Logic & Reasoning (10%). The examination will be conducted for the Junior Group (class VI to VIII) and for the Senior Group (class IX to XI) in English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. Syllabus is given at www.vvm.org.in/syllabus. Evaluation of student will be based on their individual performance at every level. Top 3 Rankers per class will be School winners (18 students from each School) subject to the conditions that a minimum of 10 students per class have registered from school. The school level winners will be awarded Merit Certificates. At the District level, top 3 Rankers per class will be district winners (18 students from each district). All the schools from that district will be part of evaluation. The district winners also will be awarded Merit Certificates.
The school level examination can be taken either on 25th November, 2018 or 28th November, 2018 from 11 am to 1 pm. Results will be declared on 15th December.
State Level Camp (SLC): Top 20 rankers from each class for every state will be identified to participate in the one or two days State Level Camp (SLC). The winners will have to attend the State Camp at their own travel expenses. The camp will be organised anywhere. State Level Camp will consist of Application Orientated Multiple Choice Questions, Hands-On Activities, Observation and Analysis, Situational Problem Solving Ability and a series of other activities. States will be clubbed according to number of Students appeared for the examination with the consideration of their geographical and cultural resemblance and convenience for the students. Participants of State Camp will be given State Camp Participation Certificate and State Camp Memento. Top 3 Rankers per class from students appearing in state camp, will be State winner (18 students per state). They will be awarded with Cash prize of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranks per class.
State Level Camps are likely to be held between 20th December 2018 and 25th February 2019.
National Camp (NC): The top two students from each class (a total of 12 students from each state) will be invited to a two-day National-level camp which will comprise Presentations, Scientific Understanding, Innovation and Creativity, Out of Box activities, and Assessment of Leadership Quality. Selected student will have to attend the camp at his/her own expenses. No travel support for this purpose will be provided. Participants of National Camp will be given National Camp Participation Certificate and National Camp Memento. Top 3 Rankers per class, from a zone, from among the participants of the state camp, will be Zonal winners (18 students per zone) who will be awarded Cash prize Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 respectively for 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranks per class in each zone.
Top 3 Rankers per class will be National winners (18 students at national level) who will be awarded Cash prize Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions per class (Himalayans).
The Two-day National Camp will be held on 18th & 19th May, 2019.
A fully web based option will be available for the registration of schools at www.vvm.org.in. The school Principal/authority needs to appoint the school exam coordinator who should enter the details of the school like school name, school address, name of principal, name of exam coordinator, mobile number, email ID etc. This information will be shown as school profile on web site. The data entered will be verified by VVM admin by sending OTP and an Email verification link on registered mobile and email respectively. After the above mentioned process, the school will be provided with a unique identification number.
After completion of School registration, the exam coordinator will be able to register students who wish to take up the VVM online exam. The coordinator will have to enter details like Name of student, Class, Gender, Email ID, Phone No. etc. It can be an offline process, using the editable excel file (with no changes in the format of file acceptable), provided for data entry. This information will be shown as student profile on web site. After completion of the entries, the data can be uploaded or submitted online. If the uploading or data submission is successful he/she will be directed towards the payment page automatically.
Individual Student Registration
Individual student registration will be allowed on the basis of first come first serve due to the limited number of seats/devices with the centre/s. Students will be provided with an option to choose from the centre/s created by the organizers for examination purpose. Date for the examination will be pre-selected and students will not be allowed to make any further changes in the same. Student will have to come with his/her own device with good internet connectivity on the day and date mentioned against his/her centre. Centre might/might not be able to provide the devices for all the students as its main focus will be to provide venue for conduct in the exam.
The registration fee is Rs. Rs 100/- if paid by 30th September. Registration fee will be Rs. 120/- from 1st to 15th October, 2018, inclusive of late fee. Specially abled students can avail Free Registration offer and appear in the examination. They may contact State Co-ordinator for enrolment.
After the successful submission of fee, the exam coordinator will be provided with each student’s username and password, which has to be distributed to the respective students. The login Credentials of students will also be available in his/her school profile page as well. After successful submission, an OTP and email will be sent to the registered mobile number and email ID of each registered student respectively. The student can click the verification link and complete the verification process by entering the one-time password. In the student profile page, the details of the student like profile photo need to be uploaded (mandatory), DoB, Father’s name, Mother’s name, Residential address etc. The student must also specify the details of the device from which he is planning to take the exam in order to download the VVM Exam Application compatible with his/her device. Student can confirm the details displayed or change the device by providing the details of the device from which he will be taking the exam.
From the school login, the details of all the students registered from that school will be displayed. The authority of modification in the student’s name, student’s mobile number etc. will only be with the Principal/School Exam Coordinator.
School Requirement to conduct Online Examination: To conduct the examination, school should provide classrooms and invigilators. An amount of Rs. 20/- per student should be retained by the school as a service charge from organizers. School Exam coordinator should retain the above service charge with school and rest of the amount will be transferred only through RTGS/NEFT to VVM Delhi office.
