Kozhikode: Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET) under the Govt of India has invited applications online for the common entrance test to be held on 17th June at Kochi, Chennai, Mangalore, Pondicherry, Visakhapatanam, Delhi & Kolkata for admission to the vessel navigator & marine fitter courses offered at its Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatanam centres for the year 2017 -18. Duration of the course is 2 years with four semesters.
These two trades are started with the view of producing practical Trades man in the Marine Sector and manpower for the Deck side and Engine side of the fishing vessel The successful candidates, after obtaining requisite sea service will become competent to appear the respective competency examinations conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department, Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India.
On successful completion of the above courses they will be gaining Academic and practical experience in the specialized subjects like Navigation, Marine Engineering so that they will be able to get wider opening at the shore establishments, fishing vessels, marine crafts etc.
Vessel Navigator Course covers theory papers includes: General English, Applied Mathematics, Fishing Gear Material, Accessories and Design, Seamanship, Safety and Watch Keeping, Elementary Marine Engineering, Employability Skills, Naval Architecture & Ship Construction, Fishing Technique, Marine Fisheries, Fish Processing & Fish Finding Equipments, Practical Navigation, Marine Meteorology & Basic Principles of Oceanography
Marine Fitter Course covers theory papers includes: General English, Applied Mathematics, Marine Engines, Workshop Technology, Engineering Drawing, Marine Electrical Technology, Basic Electronics & Instrumentation, Employability Skills, General Engineering Knowledge, Naval Architecture and Ship Construction, Machine Drawing, Hydraulics and Deck Machineries, Fishing Technology, Seamanship and Navigation, Heat Engines and Refrigeration
Those who have passed in 10th Standard or equivalent examination with 50% marks in Maths and Science separately for Vessel Navigator Course and just pass for Marine Fitter Course. Attested copy of mark list of 10th Std. or equivalent examination should be enclosed with application even if candidate possesses higher qualification. The selection will be made only through marks obtained in 10th and entrance examination.
Age limit: 16 to 20 years as on 1st August, 2017. Upper age limit relaxable to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates by 5 years. Attested copy of Age/Date of birth certificate is to be enclosed with the application.
There is no age limit when employed candidates are sponsored for training. However no relaxation in educational qualification is granted to the sponsored candidates also.Candidates should be physically fit for strenuous work on board fishing vessels.
