Kottayam: The universities in the state are in preparation for avoiding the postponement of exams scheduled on hartal days and to conduct them on the same day. The move comes as the postponement affects the schedule of the whole academic year.
It is being decided that exams shouldn’t be postponed due to any reasons other than natural disasters. All the universities have unanimously taken the decision. It is expected to be useful in conduct of exams including online tests.
The loss of academic days delays the exams and result declaration. It affects the students’ higher studies and job possibilities. The opportunities of students attending exams like UPSC and GATE are extremely affected by the hartals as of now.
Also not maintaining the academic calendar results in lower positions of the universities in world rankings.
In 2019, universities have postponed the exams scheduled on January 1 because of the Women Wall and on January 8 and 9 due to the general strike.
Universities had resisted the hartal on January 3 seeking a change. They even released statements that exams will not be postponed. But later the previous night they decided to postpone the exams after huge opposition from teachers and students.
