SET on September 16; Apply by June 30
Thiruvananthapuram: LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Palayam, Nandavanam, Thiruvananthapuram-695 033, has invited applications for the State Eligibility Test, September-2018. The exam will be conducted on 16 September 2018.
A pass in the State Eligibility Test (SET) is a mandatory requirement for appointment as Higher Secondary School Teachers under the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) and Non-Vocational Teachers in Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE), Kerala.
Structure: SET will have two papers, each of 2 hours duration with objective type, multiple choice questions.
Paper I is common for all candidates and will have two parts each with 60 questions of 1 mark each. Part A will be General Knowledge and Part B, Aptitude in Teaching.
Paper II will be a test based on the subject of specialisation of the candidate at the Post Graduate (PG) Level which has to be one among Anthropology, Arabic, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, French, Gandhian Studies, Geography, Geology, German, Hindi, History, Home Science, Islamic History, Journalism, Kannada, Latin, Malayalam, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Russian, Sanskrit, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Syriac, Tamil, Urdu and Zoology. There will be 120 questions in Paper II, each carrying one mark except for Mathematics and Statistics which will have only 80 questions, each carrying 1.5 marks. No marks will be deducted for incorrect answers in both papers.
Pass Criterion: For a pass in the SET 2018, the minimum percentage of marks needed will be 40 for each of Paper I and Paper II and 48 in aggregate for General category candidates, 35, 35 and 45 for OBC (NCL) category and 35, 35 and 40 for PWD/VH/PH/SC/ST
Eligibility: There is no age limit prescribed appearing for the SET.
Applicant should have a Master's Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST) or equivalent grade and B.Ed. degree in any discipline from any of the universities in Kerala or should have acquired it from any other university recognised as equivalent thereto.
For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those having MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade from any one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by the NCERT are eligible to apply.
For Botany and Zoology, those having MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science (with not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade) from any one of the Regional Institutes of Education are also eligible.
For Anthropology, Commerce, French, Gandhian Studies, Geology, German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Russian, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics and Syriac, B.Ed. Degree is not needed for applying.
Those who have acquired II Class Master’s Degree in Communicative English with not less than 50% marks and B.Ed., are eligible to appear for SET in English.
Those who have acquired DLED/LTTC in Arabic, Urudu and Hindi but do not have B.Ed Degree are eligible to apply.
Those who have acquired B.Ed. Degree in Hindi conducted by the Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from the requirement of producing the equivalency certificate, as the degree has been recognized by the Universities in Kerala.
For Latin, those who have passed their degree examination in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with Latin as their Second Language under Part II with not less than 50% marks for that Part II are also eligible to appear for SET, provided such candidates have acquired II Class Master’s Degree with not less than 50% marks in any discipline.
Those who have acquired their qualification through Correspondence Courses/ Open Universities which are not recognized by any one of the Universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the SET.
Those who have acquired their qualifications through recognized correspondence courses/Open universities should obtain and furnish, certificates of recognition and equivalency, from any one of the Universities in Kerala.
Those who have acquired their Master’s Degree with the minimum required marks for eligibility to appear for SET and are undergoing the final year courses for B.Ed. Degree are eligible to appear for the test.
Those who have acquired their B.Ed. Degree and are undergoing the final year courses of their Post Graduate Programme are also eligible to appear for the test. Such candidates must produce the Certificates of their qualifying examinations showing their pass with the minimum required marks, within one year from the date of publication of the results of the test, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
Application Fee: Those desirous of registering for SET 2018 are required make payment shall be only by Demand Draft drawn from a Nationalised Bank in India in favour of the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Cash/Money Order/Cheque will not be accepted. The SC/ ST candidates should produce community certificate obtained from the revenue authorities of Kerala and PWD candidates should produce disability certificate in support of their claim for the concession of fee. In the absence of these certificates such claims will be rejected without further intimation.
The fee is Rs.750/- for General/OBC applicants and Rs.375/- for SC/ST/VH/PH applicants.
After Online registration, the printout of the online application should be signed by the candidate and sent by registered post to the ‘Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Extra Police Road, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram-695033, to reach latest by 5 pm on 3 July 2018. It can also be handed over in person at the LBS Centre Headquarters.
