SC asks Calicut University to ensure transparency in affiliation process of institutes
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered the University of Calicut to grant affiliation to KMCT Law College in Kuttipuram. It also asked the university to bring transparency on matters relating to affiliation of colleges.
The SC bench under Justice Rohinton Nariman rejected the plea submitted by the university questioning the High Court order to provide affiliation to KMCT Law College.
Earlier the university had rejected the application of the college requesting affiliation for BCom LLB course. University had pointed out that the building proposed for the course is a temporary setup and there is not enough space for conducting cultural and sports activities for students. The library too is short of books, it noted.
However, Supreme Court said that the affiliation of a college can’t be rejected saying there are only 4400 books in the library. It also observed that university should be more vigilant in matters of affiliation and reports regarding it.
