Thiruvananthapuram: The government has issued an order increasing the salary of college lecturers in the state as recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The hike will be with retrospective effect from 2016.
Lecturers from assistant professors to professors will receive salary hike of Rs 30,000. The revised salary will be paid soon.
The arrears will be paid after taking into account the financial situation of the state and assistance from centre. However, the order does not mention about those retiring during this period.
Earlier, 80 per cent of the salary of college lecturers was granted by the UGC. However, only 50 per cent of the revised salary will be borne by UGC.
The remaining amount must be paid by the respective state. UGC had clarified to the Kerala government that the 50 per cent grant would not be allotted if the government fails to implement the salary revision. Following this the government issued the order.
