Return full fees if admission is cancelled, UGC tells universities
New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed universities to return full fees to the students who cancel their admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the academic year 2020-21.
In a press release, the UGC said that the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting financial difficulties could have affected the parents of the students. Hence, the fees must be returned.
The UGC has directed universities to return full fees to students who cancel their admission after having secured their admissions before November 30. If the admission was secured within December 31, the universities can charge up to Rs 1,000 as processing fees.
UGC issued the directive after widespread complaints were raised against the demand of universities that students should remit full fees even if they cancel admission.
The UGC also clarified that stringent action will be taken against the universities which fail to follow the directive.
