Wildlife Institute of India, an autonomous Institution of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India; Chandrabani, Dehra Dun-248 001, has notified the Contractual Recruitment of Research Personnel for the project, ‘Population Management of Species involved in Human-Wildlife Conflict’ Project.
The project is a MoEF&CC sponsored project that aims to develop appropriate mechanisms for population control of select wild animal species that are in conflict with humans. The project will be implemented in two phases that would involve developing and implementing a range of strategies including immuno-contraception for managing wild animal populations.
Eligibility: Only Indian Nationals are eligible. The engagement is initially for one year period from the date of engagement that can be extended depending on the candidate's performance and requirement in the project.
The positions, educational qualification, desirable experience, age limit etc; are as follows:
Project Fellow-Ecology (3 positions): M.Sc. in Life Sciences viz. Wildlife/Botany/ Zoology/Forestry/ Agriculture or related subjects with minimum 1 year experience. Prior experience and aptitude for working in rigorous field conditions; knowledge of sampling methods/basic statistics; maximum 30 years
Research Assistant-Ecology (3 positions): M.Sc. in Life Sciences viz. Wildlife/Botany/ Zoology or related subjects. Aptitude for field work in rigorous conditions, prior experience desirable; maximum 28 years
Research Assistant-Microbiology (1 position): M.Sc. in Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Life Sciences; Prior experience in molecular laboratory work; maximum 28 years.
Relaxation in upper age limit shall be allowed in accordance with Government of India rules. Upper age relaxations (a) Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women candidates up to 5 years (b) Other Backward Class (OBC) up to 3 years.

Selection process: The Project Personnel (Indian Nationals only) for the project will be recruited through an online test likely to be held at 1200 hrs on 18th August 2019, followed by a personal interview. The online test for these positions will be conducted at (i) Dehradun, (ii) Mumbai, (iii) Bangalore, (iv) Chennai, (v) Kolkata, (vi) Delhi/NCR, (vii) Bhopal, (viiii) Lucknow, (ix) Guwahati and (x) Hyderabad. The address of the centre(s) will be communicated to candidates through their Admit Card.
The written examination will be of one hour and 30 minutes duration that will include (a) 30 multiple choice questions on ‘General Ecology and Conservation Biology’ (60 Marks) (b) One essay of 250 words on a given topic related to Ecology and Wildlife Conservation (40 Marks each)
Those who have cleared the CSIR/UGC- JRF Fellowship exam and have active fellowship are exempt from online exam. However, they have to submit fees online and appear for interview on designated day. The qualification of the UGC/CSIR JRF- Fellowship exam does not entitle a student for direct recruitment for the post or guarantee registration of Ph.D. This exam is deemed to be solely of qualifying nature, in lieu of the exam conducted by WII. The merit and aptitude of these students will be decided based on their interview. Candidates who have not registered will not be entertained for interview.
Interviews for shortlisted candidates are likely to be held in 28th and 29th August 2019 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.
