Prathibha Scholarship for UG Science Education
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment has invited applications from those pursuing Under Graduate education in Basic/Natural Sciences, for the Prathibha Scholarship 2017-18, under the ‘Scheme for identifying Students with Talent and Aptitude for Research in Science (STARS)’.
The scheme implemented by the Women Scientist Division of KSCSTE aims to identify and nurture students who have qualified in the Higher Secondary Board Examination meritoriously from Kerala to avail scholarship for pursuing B.Sc. / Integrated M.Sc. courses in Basic / Natural sciences anywhere in India.
Applicants should be of Kerala origin and should have qualified HSC examination from any of CISCE/CBSE/State Board, from Kerala, with minimum aggregate marks of 95% or equivalent grade for all subjects in total and also minimum 95% aggregate marks or equivalent grade for all science subjects in total. SC/ST students should have secured minimum 90% marks as subject total and also minimum 90% marks in overall subjects.
Applicants should also have secured admission for B.Sc. /Integrated M.Sc. courses in Basic or Natural Science in any of the Institutions or Universities in India during 2017-18. The subjects for higher studies should be one among Astronomy, Astrophysics, Atmospheric Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Food & Nutrition, Geochemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Microbiology, Ocean Sciences, Photonics, Physics, Plant Science, Statistics or Zoology, either as Major/Honours or their combinations in 3- year B.Sc /5-year Integrated M.Sc./MS Degree courses.
Those who are availing other scholarships are not eligible to apply.
Duration of scholarship is 3 years of the Degree course and for the first three years of study of Integrated M.Sc. Degree course. The scholarship could be continued for their M.Sc. course or 4th year of their Integrated M.Sc. course subject to the condition that the student scores a minimum aggregate mark of 75% or equivalent grade for the Degree course or first three years of Integrated M.Sc. course.
The amount of Scholarship will be Rs 12,000/-, Rs 18,000/- and Rs 24,000/- respectively for the first, second and third years. If extended for 4th and 5th year, the amount would be Rs 40,000/- and Rs 60,000/- respectively.
Total number of scholarships awarded in a year depends on the availability of fund under the allocation for Prathibha Scholarship in that year. 10% of the total seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and 50% for girl students. The number of scholarships allocated to each Board of examination will be proportional to the number of eligible applicants in the corresponding Boards namely State Board, CBSE and CISCE (Class XII). The scholarship is awarded as per ranking based on the marks secured in Higher Secondary Examination for all Science subjects. In case of tie in the total marks for Science subjects, ranking is made based on the marks scored in the order of subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology/Biotechnology/ Computer Science and finally, the overall marks in the Higher Secondary examination.
The provisional rank list of selected candidates will be published in KSCSTE website usually in November/December.
The awardees under this scheme of scholarship will not be allowed to receive any other scholarship during the tenure of receipt of Prathibha Scholarship. However, lumpsum grant received by SC/ST students is exempted from this condition.
The students selected provisionally should confirm their willingness to avail Prathibha Scholarship by submitting an Undertaking that he/she will not accept any other scholarship for the current course of study. The Head of the Institution should ensure that students who are awarded Prathibha Scholarship are not availing other scholarships for the current course.
The documents to be attached with the application include (i) PRATHIBHA SCHOLARSHIP-A (B.Sc. Degree Course / First 3 years of Integrated M.Sc. Course) duly filled application in the prescribed format (Form-A) (iii) Attested copies of HSE certificate / Mark list (iii) Community certificate for SC/ST applicants (iv) Certificate for proof of place of origin (Applicant should be of Kerala origin)

Application duly filled along with the required enclosures in a cover super scribed, ‘APPLICATION FOR PRATHIBHA SCHOLARSHIP 2017-18, KSCSTE’, should be forwarded by the Head of Institution where the candidate is undergoing the degree course, to reach ‘The Head Women Scientist Division Sasthra Bhavan, Pattom (P.O) Thiruvananthapuram-695 004’, latest by 28th September 2017.
