PMRF December 2020: Apply by March 1
Applications have been invited under the ‘Prime Minister's Research Fellows (PMRF)’ Scheme, designed for improving the quality of research in various higher educational institutions in the country in areas in Science and Technology only.
The institutes which can offer PMRF include all the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), all the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and some of the top Central Universities/National Institutes of Technology (NITs) that offer Science and/or Technology degrees. One can apply for PMRF through two channels- the Direct entry and Lateral Entry channels.
To apply under direct entry channel applicant should have completed in the preceding three years from the date of submission of application or should be pursuing final year of 4/5 year UG or 5-year Integrated M.Tech. or 2 year M.Sc. or 5 year UG-PG Dual degree program in Science/Technology streams. If the course is from IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERSs/IIEST or Centrally funded IIITs applicant should have secured a CGPA/CPI of at least 8.0 (on a 10-point scale) and if from any other Institute/University, should have secured CGPA of 8/equivalent and minimum score of 650 in the respective GATE subject.
Those qualified GATE and pursuing/completed M.Tech./MS by research
at one of the PMRF Granting Institutions, having a minimum CGPA or CPI of
8.0 at the end of first semester with minimum four courses are also eligible for direct entry.
Those satisfying one of these conditions have to first apply for Ph.D. programme in one the PMRF granting institutes and get nominated by the Institute for being considered for selection to the programme.
For admission through the Lateral Entry Channel, applicant should be pursuing Ph.D. in one of the PMRF granting institutions and should satisfy the conditions stipulated at https://dec2020.pmrf.in/. They also have to get nominated by the PMRF Institution.
Nominations under Direct/Lateral Entry will be accepted through PMRF granting institutes only latest by March 1, 2021.
After receipt of nomination, candidate has to submit the detailed application.
The monthly fellowship for those selected would be Rs.70,000/- for the 1st and 2nd years, Rs.75,000/- for 3rd year and Rs.80,000/- for 4th and 5th years of research. Apart from this, Fellow would be eligible for a research grant of Rs. 2 Lakhs per year for five years.
The tenure of fellowship will be till the end of the 4th year of PhD for students from
integrated courses and till the end of the 5th year of PhD for B.Tech. (or equivalent)
students. For students selected through the lateral entry channel, the PMRF scholarship
and obligations will continue only for the remainder of the student’s stay in the doctoral
program. No retrospective payment will be made.
