Kannur: Considering the increase in number of students qualifying for the higher secondary education, the general education department has decided to allow new batches for Plus One in three districts. The new batches will be allowed in Science and Humanities streams in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts.
The new seats will be allowed only in government schools. However, the higher secondary directorate is of the stance that no more additional seats should be allowed in a batch. Schools and teachers say even 50 students are in a batch is difficult to manage. Last year 20 percent increase was allowed.
Meanwhile, in more than 20 schools in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam, there are only a very few number of students in some of the batches. If the trend continues during the applications, they will be termed uneconomical and the applications will be transferred to different schools.
The first allotment for Plus One admissions will be published on May 24. The students who obtain allotment in the first phase can take admissions at the schools on May 24, 25 and 27. The second allotment will be published on May 30. The classes will begin on June 3.
