ONGC Scholarship: Apply from Sept 1
Kochi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited, Green Hills, Tel Bhavan, Dehradun, has invited applications from meritorious Economically Backward General students and OBC students pursuing Professional Courses in Engineering, Medical Stream and Master’s Degree Course in Business Administration, Geology and Geophysics courses, for the award of ONGC scholarships.
The total number of scholarships is 1000, each worth Rs.48,000/- per annum. Of this 50 % scholarships are reserved for girl students. The streams, course duration, total number of scholarships and eligible Qualifying examination are as follows.
Graduate in Engineering (4 Years); 600 Scholarships; Eligibility: 10+2
MBBS (4 Years); 100; 10+2
MBA (2 Years); 100; Graduation
Masters in Geology/ Geophysics (2 Years); 200; Graduation
The amount of Scholarship per month per awardee for all courses is Rs.4000/- . The Scholarships would be distributed Zone-wise. Each Zone will be allotted 200 scholarships out of the total of 1000.
The States/UTs included in each Zone are as follows.
Zone -1 (North): J&K, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh
Zone -2 (West): Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Daman & Diu, Dadar & Nagar Haveli
Zone -3 (North East): Assam, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura
Zone -4 (East): Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal
Zone -5 (South): Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Pudducherry, Lakshdweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The scholarships are open for studies in India and for Indian nationals only. Applicant should be a student of 1st year of Graduate Engineering or MBBS courses or 1st year of Master’s degree in Geology/Geophysics or MBA and should be pursuing full time regular courses recognized by AICTE/UGC/Association of Indian Universities/MCI/State Government/Central Government.
Applicant should have obtained minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA/OGPA in 12th class for Engineering and MBBS disciplines and 60% marks (average marks in all the years) or equivalent CGPA/OGPA in graduation for P.G. Courses (Geology/Geophysics/MBA). In case CGPA/OGPA, conversion certificate from College/University should be provided.
The specific zone where a student can apply for scholarship shall be decided on the basis of the location of School/University/College/Institute in which the student was studying for the qualifying examination (12th class for Graduate courses and Graduation degree for Post Graduate courses) irrespective of the domicile of the student.
Gross joint family income of the student from all sources should not be more than Rs.2 lakhs per year. Income certificate must be obtained from the competent district Revenue authority not below the rank of a Tehsildar. Translated copy of the income certificate is required in case the issued certificate is not in English/Hindi and the same should be certified by the legal authority.
Age of the applicant should not be more than 30 years as on 1st of September, 2016. Applicant should not be availing or should not intend to avail any other financial assistance/scholarship assistance/scholarship from any other source.
The amount of scholarship will be Rs.4000/- per month (Rs.48,000/- per annum). The amount shall be paid on yearly basis after completion of the academic year. The amount of the scholarship will be deposited directly in the bank account of the student through ECS facility. It is mandatory to fill in the ECS format and get it certified by the bank authority. PAN Card would be compulsorily required before the release of the Scholarship Amount.
Applications can be sub mitted online under the CSR Section at www.ongcindia.com from 1st September, 2016, up to 10th October, 2016. After submission, applicant will have to take a printout of the submitted application.
The duly completed application, certified by the Head/Dean/Principal of the Institution/College/University along with the supporting documents specified should reach ‘Post Box No.2091, Chennai, Tamil Nadu-600 020’, by 31st October, 2016, with the cover super scribed, ‘ONGC Scholarship Scheme for Economically Backward General and OBC Category Students’ on the envelope.
The supporting documents to be sent with the filled application include (i) Mark Sheet of Qualifying Examination (ii) Income Certificate (iii) ECS Mandate Form duly certified by the bank authority along with cancelled Cheque/photocopy of front page of Bank Pass book (iv) CGPA to percentage conversion certificate issued by the University/Institute/ College (where applicable) (v) Caste Certificate (if applicable) (vi) BPL Certificate (if applicable) (vii) Pan Card (if available. This would be required before the release of the scholarship amount).
Selection will be made based on the merit of the applicants in the qualifying examination prescribed for each course. In case of students having the same percentage of marks in the qualifying examination, those with lower family income shall be selected. Preference will be given to the students of the BPL families. Other students will be considered only if sufficient number of students from the BPL families, fulfilling the eligibility criterion is not available.
The final list of the scholarship beneficiaries shall be posted on website www.ongcindia.com by the end of December, 2016. Once awarded, the scholarship shall be continued every year till the completion of the course subject to the promotion of the student to the next year of his/her course. Scholarship shall be discontinued of the student does not get promotion to the next year of the course. For continuation of scholarship, the student will have to send an Application for Renewal in the prescribed format. They will have to apply online at www.ongcindia.com for applying for the renewal of the Scholarship.
In case the student opts for a different scholarship subsequently, after the award of the ONGC Scholarship, he/she would have to refund the entire scholarship amount received from ONGC. The award of the scholarship shall not confer any right of employment with ONGC group of companies or its joint ventures.
